Porno, like melodrama, is a genre that produces bodily effects. It provokes a physical and sensorial reaction in the body of viewers creating different degrees of responses. Not all the responses are associated with erotic pleasure. It is possible that those who have experienced violence or rape, when viewing these experiences recreated on the screen are shocked. Others could activate the memories of sexual encounters and find pleasure in the past. Porn also has been a place for safe sex during the AIDS crisis. In this physical shock, the subconscious is activated, bringing back the memories of that violence to consciousness. The level of consciousness that the memory deals with depends on the degree of decolonization and healing experienced by the viewer. If the viewer is not aware of the dynamics operating on the representation, this symbolic association could become detrimental to the viewer.

Many of the porno movies made for gay male replicate heteronormative roles and power structures, including their formal aspects such as framing, editing, and camera movements.

We have seen how historically the bodies of the colonized have been raped and brutalized by the colonizers.

The representation of the Latino male body in the porno movies as working and lower class speaks back to a historical condition that now surfaces within the racialized gay male desire a power relation between white gay male viewers and African, Arab, Asian, and Latino male actors.
